When Ilya Bryzgalov shared his latest passion (the universe) on HBO’s 24/7, it became one of the most talked-about moments of the series. A lot of people came to the conclusion that he was pretty crazy, but I think we can all seem crazy sometimes, especially when it comes to the things that we’re passionate about. I guess I’m crazy too because I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said.
In the moment, our problems can seem so much bigger than they are. After we get past the hurdle, we might have the perspective to look back and realize that we were worried about something that wasn’t worth worrying about. It’s often the stress of worrying that is much more harmful than the thing we’re worrying about. Whether it’s going through a losing streak in hockey, having problems at work, or stressing about a big exam coming up, in the big picture of your life, it might just feel like a tiny blip.
Game Plan: When you feel overwhelmed or worried about something that you’re facing right now, sometimes you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Ask yourself if it’s something you’ll still be thinking about in 5 years or even 1 year, and trust that everything will work out and be okay in the end.
