How many times have you heard that “God doesn’t give you any more than you can handle”? While it can be reassuring to believe that we can handle whatever comes our way, there is also the possibility of invoking negative feelings towards God if you go through something that is especially difficult. I don’t care if God thinks I can handle this – why would he let this happen?
Some people go through heartbreaking things such as the loss of a child or being a victim of assault, but even when we are faced with much minor circumstances like being traded to another team or losing a job, I don’t think we need a reason to be angry with God, especially at a time when we need Him most. Instead of thinking that God only gives us what we can handle, I think that He helps us handle what we are given. He gives us free will to make our own choices and live our lives as we wish, but when we are faced with difficulty, He is there to give us the strength to carry through.
Game Plan: When you are going through a hard time, ask God for the strength and courage to get through. God didn’t say that we would go through life without trouble, but that we should keep hope because He has overcome the world (John 16:33).
