“If I am wrong, I am doing what I believe to be right.” – Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey
No matter what you do, you can never please everybody at the same time. What may be the right decision for you may not be the “right decision” for others. Worrying about what other people think about you gives them control over your life, because you’re spending all of your time and energy trying to be what you think others want you to be.
Romans 8:31 says, If God is for us, who can be against us? We can find peace in knowing that God loves us, and there is nothing we can do that will make Him love us any less. If God loves me and I feel in my heart that what I am doing is right, then who cares that some people won’t approve of everything I do? The only thing you’ll get from trying to please everyone is stress, frustration, and disappointment. It’s not worth it. Only you know what’s right for you. The reality of life is that you make decisions with imperfect information and achieve imperfect results. The alternative is to never make a decision and never learn and grow.
Game Plan: Check in with yourself each morning and remind yourself of who you are and what’s important to you. Be open to hearing advice from others, but when it comes to your life, you know best.
