Courage isn’t always loud, confident, and without fear. It’s not always in the form of physical triumphs such as walking on fire or jumping off airplanes. It can take a lot of courage to be yourself and live your own story, to let go of the past or things that are holding you back, and to persevere and keep moving forward.
Some days feel like horrible, no good, very bad days, and sometimes those days can string together into weeks and months. On those days in particular, it takes a lot of courage to keep holding on and try again the next day. When you encounter challenges in your life, it takes courage to push through and persevere. When you feel the pressure to conform to other people’s ideas, it takes courage to be yourself. Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, courage is the small voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”
Game Plan: When navy SEALs go through training, one of the most important skills they learn is to ‘talk themselves up’ and turn their negative thoughts around. Come up with your own mantra to remind yourself that you have the grit and strength to persevere during tough times. You may not always realize it or feel strong in the moment, but sometimes it takes courage just to get through the day and keep moving forward.
