Sometimes no matter what you do or how hard you try, you will never be enough or do enough for some people. There are times when we can base our self-worth on other people’s opinions and forget who we are really trying to please. Colossians 3:23 says, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. God sees every time you do something kind for someone, even if that person doesn’t see it or appreciate it themselves. He doesn’t forget the good work you do, and it doesn’t go unnoticed when you forgive someone, as He has forgiven us. He sees your beauty, no matter what anyone else sees. He loves you, no matter how many times you fail or make a mistake. This poem is such a good reminder of who we want to please. You shouldn’t waste your time trying to please everyone, because it is an impossible task. All you can do is live your own life and do your best to please the Lord.
Game Plan: The next time you find yourself getting frustrated because someone didn’t acknowledge something you did for them, you are criticized or judged for a choice you’ve made, or you feel angry because of someone else’s actions, think about how you can best act in that situation in a way that will please God. If you’re always trying to please the world, you will never be able to do enough.
