#131: Power Play – That’s how much He loves us

Heart and Ice Power Play - That's how much he loves us

He loves us more than we love ourselves, as if we were Himself.  He Who is infinitely above us, infinitely different from ourselves, infinitely “other” from us, nevertheless dwells in our souls, watches over every moment of our life with as much love as if we were His own self. …Our freedom is a gift God has given us in order that He may be able to love us more perfectly, and be loved by us more perfectly in return.  – Thomas Merton, No Man Is An Island

No matter what you do, no matter what mistakes you make, no matter how many times you fail, God is always there for you with open arms.

You can’t earn His love – no matter how unlovable you might feel, God will never stop loving you because He IS love.  It’s not an emotion or decision, but who He is.  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  (Romans 5:8)

There is nothing you can do to make God stop loving you.  Love forgives, perseveres, and never fails.  His love is always there, through the good times and the bad.

Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  – Deuteronomy 31:6

Game Plan:  The best way you can show God’s love is to love others as He loves us – selflessly, patiently, and forgivingly.  For an example of what love is, read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.  No matter what, even when you’re struggling, remember that God loves you and is always with you.  Show that same love and kindness to yourself and forgive yourself as He forgives you.
