There are times when you may feel like you are alone, like no one can understand how you feel, like you have no one to confide in or talk to, but you are not alone. There are other people who feel the same way that you do, who know that hurt and pain. Even if you are feeling lonely right now, there are people who care about you. Most importantly, God is always there by your side. You may not feel like anyone else understands what you are going through, but God does, and he cares more than you can imagine. He is helping us through our problems, even when we may not feel him or realize how he is working. Wherever you go, God is there. You are never alone.
Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
Game Plan: When you do feel alone, try to get outside and be around other people. Sometimes even just being in a place with other people around can make you feel less alone. Try this grounding exercise: Put your feet firmly on the ground, and take a few deep breaths. Keep your eyes open, look around the room, and notice the details of your surroundings.
- Notice 4 things you can see right now.
- Notice 3 things you can hear right now.
- Notice 2 things you can feel right now.
- Notice 1 thing you can smell right now.
Grounding yourself in the moment can help to lessen anxiety and help you focus on the present.
