“When you doubt your power, you give power to your doubt.” – Honore de Balzac
Even when you can’t believe in yourself, there are others who believe in you. When you’re going through a hard time, remember that there are better days ahead and you can make it through. Let that belief speak louder than your internal critic. Learn to be okay with not knowing what will happen. Just by experiencing life and immersing yourself in unknown situations, you will learn that you are stronger and more tolerant of discomfort than you know. You always have potential and are capable of much more than you think.
Game Plan: Stick to a habit, not giving any weight to the negative self-talk that normally holds you back. Believe in yourself and your abilities. To get started, start moving! Any kind of movement will improve your wellness. Write down one thing you could do to get some more movement into your day, and fit in as many chunks of movement as you can. Try to get around 30 minutes total on most days, but remember that it doesn’t even have to be all at once! You could even do three 10-minute walks. Try standing up more often, getting off the bus earlier to walk, taking the stairs, turning on some music and dancing, playing a sport, riding a bike, swimming, lifting weights, doing fast-paced yard or housework, taking a fitness class, going hiking, taking your dog for a walk, doing yoga or tai chi… there are so many possibilities – now get moving!
