It’s being here now that’s important. There’s no past and there’s no future. Time is a very misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can’t relive it; and we can hope for the future, but we don’t know if there is one.
― George Harrison
Cam Ward has had a couple of difficult seasons and wasn’t sure if he’d be back with the Carolina Hurricanes this year, but all he could do was prepare himself as best as he could to play with confidence and focus on where he is right now instead of his future with the team. “I’m trying to take it one day at a time. I’m not going to worry about tomorrow, and just take care of the present day and see what happens from there.” Pressure is created by anxieties about the future and remembered failures from the past. Worrying about the past or what may happen in the future won’t help you in the present. Live in the moment, focusing on what you can do right now.
Game Plan: Is there something that’s been bothering you from the past? If there is something you can do about now, do it, but if not, let it go. Similarly, if you’re worried about the future, do everything that is in your power to prepare or move towards your goals, but then leave it be. All there is ever, is the now. If your mind is anywhere else, you’re missing out on this moment.
