Being successful is when opportunity and preparation meet. When you are prepared to walk through the door of success, you are lucky. To those who aren’t prepared, the success of others may be perceived as luck. They don’t realize that the harder you work, the luckier you become. – Dan Bylsma
You make your own luck. It’s not just that you’re at the right place at the right time, but that you’re open to new opportunities and prepared to take them on. You have to be ready for the opportunity and be bold enough to take it. Without action, those chances can pass you by. Lucky people don’t just sit around waiting for it – they prepare for it and keep themselves open to take hold of those opportunities.
Game Plan: Pursue your goals and don’t get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. There are opportunities all around you, it all depends on how you look at it. In Dan Bylsma’s book, he talks about how when playing college hockey, some of his teammates were discouraged with their place in the lineup. With reduced ice time and being labelled as fringe players, they felt like they weren’t given enough of an opportunity. But they did have an opportunity – even for the limited time they were on the ice each night, they could put their all into it and show their coach what they were capable of. Find your own opportunities – don’t wait for them to find you.
