If you don’t waste your energy on variables you cannot influence, you can focus much more effectively on those you can. – Dan Harris, 10% Happier
How do you reconcile being open to whatever happens (and going with the flow) to being ambitious? Nonattachment to the results. You can strive towards your goals and do everything within your power, but that’s just it – once you’ve done that, there’s nothing more to do. If things don’t go the way that you want, becoming unconstructively upset hinders your ability to bounce back. Sometimes we get so obsessed over the outcome and wanting to know how everything in life will turn out that we can’t just let it be and live right now. Set goals and work hard to achieve them, but don’t emotionally attach yourself to the outcome to the point that you need it to determine your worth.
Game Plan: The Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as “tapping” involves tapping on 12 of the body’s meridian points while focusing on accepting and resolving negative emotion. It is a type of acupressure that helps to relieve stress and brings a feeling of calm over the body. Try it yourself!
